Crooked Teeth?

October 20, 2013 by admin

Did you know that crooked and misaligned teeth are more than a cosmetic issue?  It’s true!  Teeth that are not in alignment maybe more prone to plaque and tartar build up, trauma, and cavities.

The heavier build up of plaque and tartar around crooked teeth can lead to bleeding gums, recession and bone loss, which may ultimately lead to tooth loss.  Further, when teeth are not in their proper alignment, a person’s bite can be off, resulting in unfavourable wearing of the teeth or TMJ problems.  Also, teeth that are not properly aligned may “stick out” more than they should, leaving them prone to trauma from accidents like trips and falls.  Obviously, if a person is not able to keep their teeth clean due to heavier build up of plaque and tartar, the teeth are at an increased risk of cavities.

We at The Tooth Doctors believe that orthodontic treatment, also known as braces, are the ideal treatment to correct the above problems.  Braces are the least invasive, quickest way to help align the teeth to promote better oral health and a stable bite.  Braces are not only for children and teenagers anymore!  About 30% of my cases are adults who either had relapse or wished they had braces when they were younger.  Due to the wide range of ages of my orthodontic patients, I offer many different treatment options from retainers to ceramic (white) braces to invisible braces (Invisalign).
