All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
by Jen - I just wanted to take a minute and wish all of our wonderful patients a Happy and Safe Holiday Season. We are all looking forward to spending time with our family and friends, and hope you are doing the same. This month I wanted to touch on a question we get asked often here in the office. Are my child's teeth erupting “normally”?
This chart is a guideline to show which teeth should be erupting, and at what ages. This is a very loose guide; all children are different and can vary from this. In many cases children will have permanent teeth erupt, and the baby tooth has not yet shed. This is normal and may take time for the primary (baby) tooth to fall out. Children may also need some help gaining space for permanent teeth. This can be done with an appliance that will help to expand the upper or lower jaw to allow room for the teeth to erupt. Utilizing a child's growth can help to allow for the child to keep all permanent teeth. The best advice I can give you during this stage is to pay special attention to home care. Brushing and flossing while teeth are coming in is very important. Food and bacteria can get stuck in these little areas. Gingival inflammation is increased and can cause issues if not properly cleaned. At this time of year especially with all of the extra temptations, it is a good idea to help your child with brushing and flossing to insure they are able to keep things clean. And if Santa happens to place an electric tooth brush under the tree for them, it will be a big help! And if ever in doubt please contact us for an assessment. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
